Unlike conventional homes, tiny homes are built on a steel chassis with axles, wheels, braking system, and a tow hitch, making them transportable. Though they are classified as a registered caravan, they are designed to resemble a house.

At Treehab Tiny Homes, we adhere to the Australian Design Rules (ADR) when constructing our tiny homes, which can be customised to suit your needs and built using traditional home building techniques and materials.

In Australia, tiny homes cannot exceed 4.5t with electric brakes, the maximum dimensions are 2.5m wide, 4.3m high, 12.5m long.

  • Tiny Houses will vary in cost based on factors such as size, inclusions and if you choose to DIY part or all of your tiny house.

    Many DIY homes featured on YouTube or DIY programs are said to costs between $20,000 and $70,000. These costs are dependant upon a number of factors including the use of recycled components, labour, etc.

    Professionally build tiny homes cost between $80,000 and $200,000.

  • Yes, it is. You may not expect this answer from a tiny house builder. However, the honest truth is that it is always cheaper to build yourself. Your labour is free so that is the first place that you save. However, not everyone has the time, resources or expertise to build a tiny house. We have options if you wish to finish off your tiny home yourself and save some money. No matter what you choose, it is recommended that you engage a tiny house builder to ensure that your home is built safely and to the correct building standards.

  • Yes, however tiny houses fall under council rules and regulations for occupancy. It is best to check with your local council to find out the regulations for your area. In many cases a tiny house falls under the same jurisdiction as caravans.

  • Not necessarily, but this will depend on a number of things such as your local council regulations, whether you are connecting services to your tiny house and the amount of time you live in your tiny house. We would suggest having a chat to your local council to find out the rules and regulations for your area.

  • Tiny Homes are different to traditional homes, in that they don’t go up or down in price in line with the housing market. At face value, your tiny home may not appear a good long-term investment, however, you may make significant cost of living savings compared to a traditional house. There are a number of opportunities to make money from a tiny house, such as renting via Airbnb or Riparide. Don’t forget your investment in sustaining our planet with a reduced carbon footprint.

  • Yes! You can park a Tiny House on your own property. BE sure to check local council rules and regulations.

  • Tiny Homes are legally currently considered caravans, We would not recommend full time travelling with a tiny house, compared to other portable housing options such as a campervan or caravan. However, you can transport your tiny house around if you wish.

  • If tiny houses are built according to Australian building codes and regulations, a tiny home is safe. That’s why it is important to do your homework if building yourself or engage a professional builder to build for you.

  • A tiny house on wheels is considered a registerable movable dwelling, therefore a building permit for this type of tiny house is not required.

  • Treehab Tiny Houses are build on a moveable trailer to allow you the flexibility to locate your tiny house where ever you wish. Also, tiny houses on wheels do not require a building permit as a tiny house on wheels is considered a registerable movable dwelling, therefore a building permit for this type of tiny house is not required.

  • Yes, Tiny house plumbing is the same as traditional house plumbing, in most cases. A composting toilet and off grid tank water supply will provide you with more options.
